Project VISION Members Collaborate
to Host National Night Out
RUTLAND, VT – National Night Out is celebrating its 15th year in Rutland and its last year at Giorgetti Athletic Complex (before it returns to the city pool!). It should be a big crowd this year, and the organizers are planning to WOW – with bouncy houses, a slip n’ slide, hula hoop making workshops, a climbing wall, police k-9 demonstrations, raffles, and more.
Active members of Project VISION teamed up to organize the event this year, including co-chairs NeighborWorks of Western Vermont and ACF Church as well as the Rutland City Police Department, Rutland Recreation, Mission City Church, and the Department of Corrections, illustrating the community collaboration that Project VISION instills.
As the National Night Out website states, “National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods even safer. National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community.”
Our local law enforcement and community safety agencies will be well represented: the Rutland City Police Department, Rutland County Sheriff’s Department, the Rutland City Fire Department, the Regional Ambulance Service, the Vermont Dept. of Liquor, and the National Guard will all be present with interactive displays and equipment.
More than thirty local organizations will be tabling at the event, including Girls on the Run, Rutland Area NAACP, 2-1-1 Vermont, BROC, the Mentor Connector, CCV, the Homeless Prevention Center, Turning Point of Rutland, Vermont Veterans Outreach, and Recovery Houses. Event-goers will be enticed to participate with the organizations through a scavenger hunt they must complete to enter a raffle for prizes.
Brett Myhre will be DJing and providing the rhythm for community members as they get airborne in the bouncy houses, munch on hamburgers and hot dogs, sip down a snow cone, go head first down the slip n slide, get transformed into an animal of their choice by skilled face-painters, and imagine dropping in at Flip Side Skate Park as they watch a skateboarding demo.
National Night Out takes place Tuesday, August 1 from 4 – 7 PM at Giorgetti Athletic Complex, rain or shine. The event is completely free and open to the public. National Night Out is sponsored by NeighborWorks of Western Vermont, Stewart’s Shops, Jiffy Mart, Friehofers Bakery Outlet, Creed Ice Co Inc, Frito-Lay, Casella, and Thomas Dairy.
