Our Mission:
The mission of NeighborWorks of Western Vermont (NWWVT) is to strengthen the development of a regional economy by promoting safe, efficient and stable housing, and community projects through education, technical assistance, and financial services. NWWVT helps individuals develop self-reliance through education, counseling, technical, and financial services.
Vermont Housing Improvement Program (VHIP)
NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS
Offering grants to repair vacant and blighted apartments, and new unit or accessory dwelling unit creation.
NEIGHBORWORKS OF WESTERN VT IS NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR THE VERMONT HOUSING IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM (VHIP). THIS PROGRAM ALLOWS PROPERTY OWNERS TO REPAIR VACANT AND BLIGHTED APARTMENTS, AND CREATE NEW UNITS TO INCREASE AVAILABLE AFFORDABLE RENTAL HOUSING, PARTICULARLY FOR HOUSEHOLDS WHO ARE EXITING HOMELESSNESS.
Rehousing the Homeless Recovery Grant Program
The CARES act funding that was released during COVID-19, as it came from the federal government to the state, was earmarked for helping and rehousing the homeless. NeighborWorks of Western Vermont (NWWVT) was given this opportunity with this grant to work with landlords in Addison, Rutland, and Bennington counties to address and help vacant blighted properties or properties that are currently in use but had code issues, or health and safety issues. The grant has allowed us to bring units online, rehouse the homeless, and create an affordable, sustainable, healthy living environment using these funds. This video is the story behind this project and how this much needed funding has only touched the tip of the iceberg as far as helping to house the homeless in our community.
